About this deal

The only problem? Everyone else wants in on the action, and now the whole galaxy is boarding the Arks of Omen in search of glory, treasure, or just a big punch-up. In fact, four more Boarding Patrol boxes are preparing for launch in the near future – and only one of them might be said to have the Emperor’s best interests at heart… The Grey Knights are classic sculpts granted, but are really showing their age, and it doesn’t help that 95% of the box is outdated like that. It’s the big heads that get me – it really is a screenshot from a bygone era. I’d love to see the Grey Knight range get the refresh they deserve so they can look eye to eye with the heretics and daemons they were engineered to hunt. Now, this is an… interesting choice for a Boarding Patrol. It’s almost as if Games Workshop asked 40K players how many Rubric Marines they wanted, and all they heard was Yes. I don’t know if this would be a super effective army to be clear — but you’ve got some hammer units with the Terminators, Possessed, the Daemon Prince, and Abaddon. The Heldrake can cause problems. Plus you’ve got some boots for objective holding. It’s a start and needs to be refined for your playstyle but it can work.

Next steps for this one? I’d grab the Boarding Patrol box for the Chaos Space Marines and tact in those 630 points right off the bat. That will bring you up to 1375 + wargear. Plus, it will give you some much needed troop support. If you want to go up to a full 2000 point army you’ve got room to work with. Maybe a Land Raider to ferry your units and deliver a payload of Possessed to your enemy’s face? One or more units from your army can start to perform this action at the end of the Move Units step of your Movement phase if they are within 1" of a Hatchway. This action can be performed by any unit that is not within Engagement Range of any enemy models, even if that unit is being affected by a rule that would normally prevent it from performing actions. The action is completed at the end of your Movement phase if no enemy models are within 1" of that Hatchway. If there are any enemy models within 1" of that Hatchway, your opponent can attempt to prevent the action from being completed. If they do so, roll off with your opponent; each player adds the Strength characteristic of one of their models that is within 1" of that Hatchway to their respective scores. If you win, the action is completed; otherwise, the action fails. If completed, that Hatchway opens (if it was closed) or closes (if it was open). Every unit in this box has Teleport Strike, meaning you don’t have to deploy right away. They can be set up in reserve and be deployed in the reinforcements step in future movement phases anywhere on the board you’d like – as long as it is 9″ away from enemy units. This will put you at significant advantage, as it gives you more opportunity and time to plan exactly where you can put your models in the most strategic places – on unclaimed objectives, or behind your foe’s models. In Boarding Actions, any unit with similar ability are invaluable. To manifest the psychic power, you must first pass a Psychic test. The opposing player can then select one of their PSYKER units that is within 24" of the PSYKER unit attempting to manifest the power and attempt to deny that power before its effects are resolved by passing a Deny the Witch test. Alongside these, the Space Marine Boarding Patrol that’s out now, and the three further sets recently announced for the Necrons, Tyranids, and Grey Knights, there are even more boxes to come for other factions in the 41st Millennium. Naturally if you have the benefit of foresight,* you’ll want to maximise the weapons that perform best against your enemy. The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor’s finest. Golden demigods, they are His bodyguards and attendants, trained for centuries in the ancient art of walloping literally anything that gets in their way, tasked with missions too personal and dangerous even for the mighty Space Marines. This set is led by no less a personage than Captain-General Trajann Valoris, who is joined by three Allarus Custodians, and five Custodian Guards. Boarding Patrol: The Thousand Sons However, if you’re already playing 40K, and you perhaps also have the correct scenery, the game is really easy to get into.

The Warhammer Community team has come up with a few of our own sample lists to see what’s possible.Boarding Actions is a game mode for Warhammer 40,000 that simulate the boarding missions which took place during the Arks of Omen campaign in Warhammer 40,000’s 9th edition. Battlefields in the grim darkness of the far future are shifting as Vashtorr the Arkifane and Abaddon unleash the calamitous Arks of Omen and set intricate plans in motion. Operate Hatchway: This can also be performed in the Movement Phase, and allows a unit to try to open a door in the Boarding Actions terrain. If there’s an enemy unit on the other side of the door trying to prevent you from opening it and passing through, you roll off to see if you succeed. Chaos Daemons have – appropriately, given the arrival of Angron – manifested as a huffing and slavering crash of Khornate nightmares. 10 Bloodletters and 10 Flesh Hounds are led by Khorne’s favourite hunter – Karanak, the Hound of Vengeance. In the cramped confines of a space hulk, these frenzied killers will close the distance between enemy guns with warp-flushed speed and savagery.

As to be expected, there are good savings to be had with what you get. You almost get the Terminators for free! Boarding Patrol: Grey Knights – Points In other cases, new rules have been adapted to suit the claustrophobic battlefield. Units can stand on top of objective markers, for instance, just as they did in the previous edition. Some of those corridors would get mighty cramped if they couldn’t! So if you’re looking to start Custodes without any gaming context – be aware that 9 models will be make over 500 points, which we’ll discuss below in the points section. Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Custodes – ValueThese are sort of like small Combat Patrol boxes made specifically to be fielded for the new Boarding Actions. So, expect them all to have a lot of foot sloggers. At 470 total points, this box brings you very close to the 500 point threshold required for a Boarding Actions army list. By turning one of your Rubric Marines into an Aspiring Sorcerer, and then giving a couple marines Soulreaper Cannons or Warpflamers, you’ll meet the 500 point limit with ease. As they’ll be doing the lion’s share of the damage – against many different kinds of troops – our Crisis Battlesuits have a diverse selection of weapons at their disposal, from infantry-shredding burst cannons to elite-melting fusion blasters. We’ll also prize Early Warning Overrides for their bonuses to Overwatch – extremely potent in Boarding Action games.
