About this deal

However, that series is all flash and fantasy… The Hunger Games presents a story and world that are a safe remove from the one in which its viewers live. An early 1980s dystopian children's drama series, imagining a breakdown in British society following high inflation and food shortages. The country, like much of the rest of the world, was still reeling from the 1973 oil crisis, there had been two general elections caused by the first hung parliament since 1929, and a huge explosion at the Flixborough chemical plant that broke windows for miles around seemed to cast a pall of chemical corruption over the whole country. Right now, the US Government is printing billions of dollars that are backed by nothing - precisely the same state of affairs in the UK that starts the ball rolling in this story. As more and more people find out what is going on in the household, you can't help me feel very apprehensive of what might happen.

This past weekend I picked the book up again during the read-a-thon and found to my surprise that I was getting into the story line. Episodes focused around how living in this new UK with is almost military junta government affected the main characters lives. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. The supernatural and paranormal have always been means of figuring powers that cannot otherwise find visible expression. but the chilling sense of hopelessness and fear of ordinary lives being turned upside down by forces that no-one can seem to control would certainly have struck a chord.A FAMILY FIGHTS TO SURVIVE AS ENGLAND STARVES… The coming winter was going to be a bad one—and not because of the weather.

With novels like INCARCERON and HOW I LIVE NOW gaining acclaim in the same genre, this really stands out. He secretly starts spending a lot of time in the basement with his son Geoff, hammering away at something that his wife and his other three children Nessie, Barry, and Ellen know nothing about.I (think) I remember an episode where one of the brats sneaked a can of ‘spam’ or corn-beef out to give to another kid as a birthday present. People like Christopher Fairbank ( AUF WEIDERSEIN PET ) , Lee McDonald ( GRANGE HILL ) and Alun Lewis ( EMMERDALE ) . Alright if you have any intention of reading this book, at anytime, please don't continue to read the review.
