When I finally reached 5cm dilated I had a moment where I completely changed my attitude, I realised that even though my labour was different to what I had planned, I could still stay in control. We work in close contact with Independent Midwives, the National Childbirth Trust and other therapists, including acupuncturists, reflexologists, doulas, and aromatherapists to help you achieve the birth you want. I felt so much calmer and mentally prepared leading up to my due date after listening to it for a few weeks. Her intuitive skills and calming expertise bring out fundamental changes in consciousness and great results.

Her unique blend of hypnosis and mindfulness, alongside real experience using them with her clients has created a set of techniques that will support you and help prepare you for those big transitional moments in your life. It allowed me to get through seven or so hours of early and active labor prior to arriving at the hospital. Using a powerful combination of mindfulness, hypnosis and relaxation techniques, Sophie will ensure you feel genuinely excited and completely prepared for birth.We also learned so many simple things that we wouldn’t have even thought about before like the fact that I find it so much easier to relax when Mike is touching me.

During this time, I went from 5 to 9 cm dilated in 25 minutes, the people in the room with me were amazed and later told me that it was as though I was in some sort of trance. HOWEVER, fast forward to 9 cm dilation, 100% effaced, no epidural, and I could feel my son’s head in my pelvis, I was cursing this book between contractions! I’m sorry, but there’s no way you can stay calm and in a peaceful trance when you’re body is about to split in half.It helps me during pregnancy, to remain calm and visualise the labor process as a natural process and relax. Mindful Hypnobirthing takes this natural ability of our body into account with a therapist’s understanding of hypnosis and its application for birth. Time and time again we are told by couples after our mindful hypnobirthing class how valuable it has been for them and that is really has benefitted them both. With that being said, I still think that it could be worth reading for any women, especially women who attend births and/or teach about birth. I found the accompanying meditation tracks useful but found birth affirmations tracks I found more useful on YouTube.

Many mums who have been on our mindful hypnobirthing class comment that the CD music that they relaxed to during the pregnancy, relaxes and settles their baby after they have been born; simply because baby associates the music with being calm.Our teachers have had a range of experiences themselves and know the power of these tools to help in any situation. The truth is even a partners preconceptions of birth can influence how a woman births, it can change the type of support and also the direction a birth takes. We strongly believe that when the birthing partner feels comfortable, knows what to expect and how they can help during the birth it makes and immense difference to the mother and baby. When I put my Mindful Hypnobirthing music on, baby recognises it from me listening to it in pregnancy.
