About this deal

She was also named Player of the Tournament and has since won England Women's Player of the Year, the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022 and been named runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or Feminin. Beth Mead was the standout player from the England team, although to read her story you will be struck by just how humble she is. Beth Mead is one of the world's most talented footballers, a Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA Euro 2022, England Player of the Year 2021-22, Arsenal Player of the Season 2021-22, and runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or. Of course I loved the chapters about the 2019 World Cup, the 2022 Euros and everything England got up to in-between. Even after their success at the Euros that had all of the right thinking country supporting them, they still have to fight to be heard, to be seen, and to be treated as equals.

Unlike some memoirs, at no point did I feel like I was waiting to get to a more interesting bit, not one part felt drawn out. Filled with positive lessons and an exclusive account of England’s triumphant Euros campaign, Beth offers readers of all ages a heartfelt, behind-the-scenes look into her remarkable journey to glory. Being able to read the player’s perspective of one the biggest turning points of my life just made me love everything that happened this summer more. I can relate to that all too well, and it was really encouraging to read that such a star player struggles with the same worries.

First Sentence chapter 6: „I probably should have realised that I was gay a little bit sooner than I did.

Her story, from growing up in a small village in North Yorkshire to becoming an international player is both inspiring and just very cool.Since this book came out, Beth has been voted Sports Personality of the Year for 2022 - quite rightly, in my opinion. But long before this, Beth was just an ordinary kid from Hinderwell, North Yorkshire who wanted to play football.

The England team continues to work tirelessly to ensure that girls and women in sport receive equal recognition and treatment, whatever level they are playing at. It sounds like such a minor thing, but we put so much pressure on ourselves as players that we often forget this.

At Boro’s Centre of Excellence, England training camps she attended as a teen, and when she first started at Arsenal as an adult. I loved this book, it was fascinating to read about Beth Meads football journey from day 1 until present day. Now, Beth shares the challenges that shaped her, what she faced on the journey to the top, and the life events that made her stronger - from being dropped from the England squad and receiving devastating family news, to finding her best form under the guidance of Jonas Eidevall and Sarina Wiegman.

There might be some things that were lacking in some areas—writing, characterisation, plot etc, but there may have been a few moments that I liked. As someone who used to play football myself when I was younger, I found much of the earlier years highly relatable. It's inspiring, well-written, and filled with anecdotes of some of the most important moments in Beth Mead's life– from signing with her now-club Arsenal to winning the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 with England's Lionesses– and everything in between. Well done Beth for telling your story and I was pleased to read, in the news recently, that the Lionesses were successful in getting the government to listen to them about PE in schools.knowing that beth, someone who i look up to is currently going through the same thing as me, made me feel so much less alone. This helps to shed light on the difficulties so many of our top players have faced to make it to where they are now in football. You don’t know what is going on in other people’s lives, what challenges they have overcome, or are keeping hidden. Beth takes a dive into her own personal life and what has happened over her career which helps her strive to be the best player, she takes difficult events in her life and uses them to power her mentality for the game.
