About this deal

When a body is found in a farmhouse in a gruesome state, DI Adam Fawley is one of the first on the scene. I don't give out many 5-star ratings for book reviews, but "Hope to Die" fully deserves that top mark.

The story followed the format of a dual, past and present timeline as it developed through changing scenes, told from the points of view of Adam and various others, who each had their dilemmas and difficulties to bear, though Adam is in a better place now. Having recently cleared his name and become a father to a baby daughter, DI Adam Fawley is back at work and soon confronted by an extremely unusual case. Hope to Die could be read as a standalone, as I thought this one was more crime than character focused when compared to the previous books.Although I enjoyed this, number six in the series, I did find myself tiring of what felt like an excessive use of artifacts.

Hope To Die starts off with a gunshot in an isolated house in a secluded part of the countryside and when the police arrive at the scene the homeowners, an elderly couple, appear shocked to see the police and upon further investigation, the police find a young man dead in their kitchen killed by a gunshot to the face. The sub-plot about Somer is quite sad, but the three new additions to the team are all great and it does not take long to get to know them. Police arrive at the scene, and even with their past experience, they find the sight of a dead man, shot in the head at very close range, pretty hard to stomach. I really enjoy Hunter’s writing style and I find it absolutely fascinating the way she includes interview transcripts, newspaper clippings and TV scripts to bring the story to life. Like most of the books in this series the storyline is very tense and there is an eagerness to get to the end to find the perpetrator. When they arrive, they find an elderly couple, Richard and Peggy Swann, with the body of a young man in their kitchen. As the team dig deeper they soon discover that this was far from a burglary gone wrong and may have connections to one of the country’s most infamous crimes.
