About this deal

The two-part book keeps the reader on edge throughout as they are taken on a journey of tragedy, courage and sacrifice. A contemporary of that opinion was King Edward VII's librarian at Windsor Castle, Sir John Fortescue. Ward uncovers the scandal of how the cable-laying ship Mackay-Bennett, which sailed from Halifax to recover bodies, enforced a class system that mirrored the Titanic’s own class structure on board. The sinking and subsequent investigations brought to light serious problems in the safety arrangements on passenger’s vessels. Meet the captain, crew, and passengers from all walks of life who lost their lives or survived the sinking.

Published 100 years after the fateful maiden voyage of the ocean liner Titanic, author Charles Pellegrino has combined fact and a clever writing style to provide his readers with a unique perspective on the tragedy.

Since 2003, Harcourt has developed film studios, educational facilities, apartments and visitor attractions; helping to make Titanic Quarter a prestigious new community for Belfast. Ward’s book, which became a Sunday Times bestseller, inspired a Discovery Channel documentary, Titanic: The Aftermath, which tells the story of Jock’s short but daring life, not unlike that of Jack Dawson in the film, T itanic. The book is complete with featurettes on the making of James Cameron’s blockbuster film “Titanic”, as well as the real-life accounts of passengers and crew.

I am really obsessed with anything and everything to do with the Titanic and I try to read every book I can on the subject. The tragedy of the Titanic is shown in dramatic original illustrations by award-winning artist Steve Noon. This led to the creation of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea ( SOLAS) two years after the sinking. From those who struggled to escape from the bottom of the ship to the hundreds of passengers floating on the frigid waters waiting for rescue, every angle of the tragedy has been covered lucidly and in stunning detail. Certainly, many people experienced feelings of foreboding about the ship, and there were many strange omens and unexplained events surrounding its construction and maiden voyage.

Complete with cutaways that show the inner workings and structure of the ocean liner, it provides a simple and clear understanding of the vessel and the events that led up to the sinking. Complete with histories and accounts from the survivors, the book provides a full understanding of the disaster and the far-reaching effects it had on the survivors.
